We’ve talked about this and talked about this! It’s time we all go! If you like dessert and you like cookie dough, then this is the place for you! You won’t be disappointed – I’ve already been there twice! Let’s carpool from Java Me Up – so meet at 6:30pm.

Irving Marathon 2018

The Irving Running Club will help pace the half marathon and full marathon.

Join us as we represent the IRC at the event and come cheer the runners.

All events will start at the newly minted Irving Music Factory. The Full Marathon and Half Marathon events will incorporate Campion Trails. The course will be 100% on paved surfaces (no grass, no levees!).

The day before

Congratulations you are ready for your first marathon or your 100th.

Now, what do you do the day before?  Here is a quick list of things you have to think about. This applies to everyone whether you are a beginner or an advanced runner, the preparation is the same. If you do something different, please share.

Remember, you have done everything. You train hard to get you ready for race day. There is nothing else you can do to do better in your upcoming race, the one thing you can do is get ready for the morning of the race.

Check the weather

After you check the weather you can start preparing your gear. Here is a quick checklist to get you ready for the morning of.

Checklist

  • Running Shirt
  • Running Shorts
  • Running Shoes
  • Running Socks
  • fuel: gels, beans, blocks, shakes
  • glide, baseline, nut butter
  • bandaids

Extras:

  • hats
  • gloves
  • bandanas

Eating the day before

Here is my opinion about eating the day before, but at the end of the day, it is up to you what you do. This is what works for me, I have been eating carbs the whole week and I believe I don’t have to overeat trying to fill up on heavy carbs food like pizza, pasta, rice, potatoes or any other food that contains a heavy concentration of carbs.

Whatever you do, don’t jeopardize your run tomorrow by overeating.

I recommend you look back at your training, think about that time you had to run 20+ miles and felt good about it. Now, think about the day before. Did you eat pizza or pasta to the point of feeling stuffed? no, right! so, why do it before the day you have been training so hard for? Enjoy today it should be a relaxed day.

Running Strategy

Do you have a goal in mind? focus on that and study your route. However, don’t be like me! ( disclaimer: I do get so focused on the task ahead that all I think about is getting to my goal, try not to do this.)

Have that goal in mind and don’t change your strategy, you know your body and how much you can push it. You know that a certain pace you can exhaust yourself so much that you want to stop! so, don’t let your anxiety take over. Be patient and stay with your plan.
