IRC Social Run – Lake Carolyn Promenade & Canals

FREE EVENT – Please sign up so we can know how many runners & walkers to expect! 🙂

CHECK OUT THE ITEMS WE ARE GIVING OUT IN THE DISCUSSION THREAD!

About the Run – Come celebrate your love for running with the Irving Running Club at Lake Carolyn in Irving TX. After our run, we’ll head over to The Italian Cafe Restaurant and Bar for a meet & greet, food, drinks, and fun. Happy hour drink specials all night for IRC runners!

Host – Marc Blankenship of Parker University will be joining us to explain the benefits of chiropractic care, because efficient recovery is just as important in training as getting the miles in! Also, Cassandra Lemoine of The Gem juice bar will have various cold pressed juices & vegan protein bars for purchase to replenish post-run!

We will also have a secret special offer available to the first 50 runners who RSVP/show up! (Stay tuned for hints!)

Parking – Please be aware of possible construction congestion in the area, be sure to leave with ample time to find us! There are several free parking garages nearby. The largest garage is on West Fork just past the Italian CafĂ© with an entrance to the left of the Alesio apartments leasing center. Look for a large sign that says, “Leasing and Retail Parking Entry”. There is also limited street parking on Las Colinas Blvd. Time – The run will start at 6:30pm.

Pace and Distance – All levels of runners are welcome to join us. The distance of the run is self set but the loop around the lake is about 3 miles. Alternate routes are available for longer runs. Some do walk/run intervals, and some will run the whole distance. We typically split into different pace groups, all run together, or will run in loops so no one is left behind.

What to bring – Although hydration is provided, it is highly recommended that you bring water to take with you on the run. Other than water, make sure you have a good pair of running shoes and comfortable clothes. You are also welcome to bring a guest.

Important Note – We constantly have new members join our runs, which is great, but if you plan on joining us please use the RSVP. If you are bringing a guest, please add them as a +1. It gives us a better idea of who you are, how many people there will be, helps us plan in advance, and it also attracts new members.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask or leave a comment in the comment section. You can also connect with us on Facebook.

The day before

Congratulations you are ready for your first marathon or your 100th.

Now, what do you do the day before?  Here is a quick list of things you have to think about. This applies to everyone whether you are a beginner or an advanced runner, the preparation is the same. If you do something different, please share.

Remember, you have done everything. You train hard to get you ready for race day. There is nothing else you can do to do better in your upcoming race, the one thing you can do is get ready for the morning of the race.

Check the weather

Here is a link to Irving, Texas weather map  https://weather.com/weather/today/l/Irving+TX+USTX0646:1:US

After you check the weather you can start preparing your gear. Here is a quick checklist to get you ready for the morning of.

Checklist

  • Running Shirt
  • Running Shorts
  • Running Shoes
  • Running Socks
  • fuel: gels, beans, blocks, shakes
  • glide, baseline, nut butter
  • bandaids

Extras:

  • hats
  • gloves
  • bandanas

Eating the day before

Here is my opinion about eating the day before, but at the end of the day, it is up to you what you do. This is what works for me, I have been eating carbs the whole week and I believe I don’t have to overeat trying to fill up on heavy carbs food like pizza, pasta, rice, potatoes or any other food that contains a heavy concentration of carbs.

Whatever you do, don’t jeopardize your run tomorrow by overeating.

I recommend you look back at your training, think about that time you had to run 20+ miles and felt good about it. Now, think about the day before. Did you eat pizza or pasta to the point of feeling stuffed? no, right! so, why do it before the day you have been training so hard for? Enjoy today it should be a relaxed day.

Running Strategy

Do you have a goal in mind? focus on that and study your route. However, don’t be like me! ( disclaimer: I do get so focused on the task ahead that all I think about is getting to my goal, try not to do this.)

Have that goal in mind and don’t change your strategy, you know your body and how much you can push it. You know that a certain pace you can exhaust yourself so much that you want to stop! so, don’t let your anxiety take over. Be patient and stay with your plan.

Have a great race and enjoy your race! you are awesome!
